So much for all our plans of excitement and adventure in Langkawi. We arrived, we sat on the beach, we had a beer, we ate some, we had a swim, we had another beer, another beer, another beer... After 6 months of torture at the hands of Paul Bloody Hunter (hope he can't sue me for that!!) I wanted to do nothing but chill and Thomas was in no hurry to disagree! Langkawi was beautiful with long white beaches, a warm sea and lots of excellent restaurants to try out. Our hotel, the Lankgawi Village Resort, was stunning and cheap! The swamp land that we looked on to from the back of our room contained several monitor lizards, some about 5ft long! We did place bets as to what one would eat one of the many cats first but had to leave before we found a winner, shame! We also saw loads of smaller lizards, eagles and MONKEYS!! I was very impressed with the monkeys! We came across them the day we were out on Larry (that was our little hovel of a hire car!) exploring the island! Everything on the island was very cheap!! Who can blame us for drinking so much beer when it's only 50p or 10p if you buy it from a carry out! We ate posh meals of lobster and prawns, washed down with cocktails for a grand total of 6pounds! Not a bad deal for backpackers on a budget.

So overall we had a fantastic time there and who knows, when we finally leave NZ and Oz to travel home, we may well end up going back via Malasysia and visiting Langkawi again. It was certainly a cracking start to our big adventure!
