AVIGNON We decided to head for Avignon and stayed at a couple of places along the way. The scenery continued to change every hour from mountains to green fields to deep valleys and the best of all a huge wind farm as far as the eye could see. We based ourselves at Avignon and travelled around the area discovering places such as the Pont du Gard a world heritage site of a massive aquaduct. We also visited the 2 very old towns of Uze and Nimes which has a Roman looking Colloseum in the middle of the town.
The next day we drove to Arles which also has a Roman amphitheatre and small beautiful winding streets through the town. Today we also drove to the Mediterranean coast where we swam at the 'beach' at St Marie de le Mer. YES!! I miss the beach at home and will probably be one of the first things I do when I get home.
Avignon is a beautful city with many medieval buildings, tiny winding streets and the Palace de Papes where 9 popes lived
5th July Today we returned the car at Geneva airport, which was one of the craziest things I have evr had to to because we needed to do this on the French side not the Swiss side. So being navigator was a challenge to stay on the roads on the french side. The mission was successfully completed but then we had to walk through to the Swiss side to catch out respective trains. We found ourselves walking through the customs checkpoint as if we had stepped off a flight, the most weirdest experinece walking through the nothing to declare doors into the welcome to Switzerland hall.
Annette and I said our goodbyes after spending a wonderful 6 weeks together. We had lots of laughs and will have some fantastic memories to keep forever.
