After Clermont-Fremond we headed south to Toulouse and the weather changed for us with very heavy rain all day. So when we arrived in Toulouse and just missed out on the last room in the hotel we had chosen, we were not happy, especially when 4 other hotels in the vicinity were also full. So back in the car and headed south. We finally found a place 20 ks out of Toulouse so we booked it for 2 nights deciding to spend the next day in Toulouse.
What a beautiful city - red/pink brick buildings, amazing galleries and the resting place of St Thomas Aquinas in an incredible church.
The little known art gallery has the largest collection of Bonnards in the world and an amzing collection of sketches by Picasso and Dali: 2 hours went very fast as we drooled over the works in well lit rooms ON OUR OWN!!!!
The next day we headed to Spain via Lourdes which is where Bernadette had her visions at the famous grotto. We expected to see many people there collecting the holy water and praying but were surprised at the small crowds queued to walk through the grotto.
We were present for the second half of a mass and were impressed with the music, singing and the beautiful interior of the church of which the walls were covered in the most spectacular mosaics I have ever seen.
Tonight we stayed at Bayonne on the coast and the next day took a train ride "The Rhune" to take in the panorama on the border of Spain and France.
