Between the noise of over fifty children just outside the tent and flying ants crawling
down my back it is a wonder I got any sleep at all! I woke up cold in
the night. I even got under the sleeping bag.

The morning went by quite quickly with the truck going through some lovely countryside
with lots of dense tropical forest. We slowly made out way in an
easterly direction until we arrived in the town Marellah. This was a
much less bustly place than Labe and felt far more relaxing to amble
around. During this time, I saw a guy skid and fall of his

Then a group of schoolchildren came back to the truck so we had a lesson in French and
in English. A crowd of around eighty children gathered around and we
spent a while counting numbers and learning

"My name is ..."
The kids are so bright and are fantastic oral learners. Yet another
magic moment. The children wanted to shake hands and touch your skin.
It felt like I imagine some crazy fans are at a concert. These
children are full of joy and wonder. In that joy is a simple lesson
for all to learn if we are willing to learn it.

I had a lovely maize soup for lunch too and had a nice chat with some local people .I am
going to explore more during these lunch breaks like I did last night
in Konkoure. It is such a golden opportunity to connect with local
African people!

At Faranah, we stopped and after three days without a good was, we ( well five of us) got
in the Niger River and washed. Although the river was so polluted
with plastic and clothes, I scrubbed and it felt so so cleaning
coming out!
