Passing through Medina Gounas was so memorable (last night)! The streets were packed with people all of whom were extremely well dressed (especially the women) , I have to say!

It was so so hot in the tent last night so I left the rain cover off. So then guess what happened? I woke up at 1.12am to the sound of rain. The tent got soaked and I laughed in glee. I got up to get the rain cover on (sort of ) then stood in just my underpants in the late night rain. Nature's shower! It was wonderful!

The early morning breeze was such a relief from the heat I still carried from yesterday. Stopping at a check point, just before the border, a magic moment occurred. Senegalese people have smiled and waved as we have passed (well most of them!). We stopped in front of a school and the children began to wave and imitate our waves. Then hundreds of kids came running to the truck. It was magic. The wonder and joy in their faces was... I just do not have a word for it! We counted together in French and then we had to leave and the magic moment passed. Wow!

The border crossing as swift. By 9.15am we were in Guinea. Happy days! Lunch time was a rather crazy affair. From the moment we stopped, Maria and I darted around the markets with our new currency (Guinean Franc) barter and arguing with anyone who would sell us food! Apparently, we were gone for ninety minutes. It seemed like thirty to me but what a great experience.

The whole afternoon, we passed through the Fonta Djalons region with its rolling hills. We passed along a dirt track with the truck winding up and down these undulating hills!

We had to cross a 50 metre wide river by ferry which then required me to reattach the back the light unit. What a fantastic day and in a place seldom tread by travellers. I feel so so lucky and wouldn't swap today for all the world!
