Ole is joining us on our day trip today. The drive to the island is tar which makes for an easy ride – if not boring. The impressive bridge to the island lies stretched out in front of us. The skies are dotted with fluffy white clouds which reflect beautifully on the mirror smooth surface of the sea. It is low tide and hundreds of locals form a train in the shallow water on their way back to the main land. They looks like sea ants if ever there was something like that.
Our stomachs were speaking to us by now as we did not have a meal before leaving
Although interesting, we did not linger here long as we wanted to take a drive along the coastal road on our way back.
Villa Sands is definitely THE spot in Ilha de Mozambique. Almost too good, to be true. We had a lovely meal and then did a last drive thru before crossing the bridge. Once on the other side, a Frenchman, who's name I have forgotten, stopped us to ask for a lift. We agreed, but warned them that we were taking a detour back to Nacala. Nun, his companion, is from Malawi and they are on their way to Pemba. We made short work of telling them all about Ibo and Lucie and that they should not miss it for the world. They are however on foot and not sure if they will make it in the time frame they have.
The detour was well worth it but meant that we got back to Nacala just as the sun was setting. We dropped them off at the harbour from where they would take a sea taxi across the bay – where to, no one knows.
We went back to camp to cook up a storm with the lovely fresh produce we bought along the way.
