Well, like I already mentioned, the ferry was stranded so we had to cross the river. One of the scouts would show us the way by walking ahead to indicate where to drive. OkNOFine.
All this went smoothly till we hit the soft sand. 2 hours later with the help of 6 people and a lot of logs, we made it across the stretch of soft sand in the river bed. The team was amazing helping with great enthusiasm. Thanks guys! and girl.
North Luangwa next to the river, has green areas like the south. Not as many animals though. We did see a huge number of hippo in the river. We were keen to make it to Buffalo Camp by 12am
Arriving at Buffalo Camp, Rooibek showed us around but informed us that no camping was allowed by law in parks in Zambia, but that we could use the lodge at $100 per person. This far exceeded our budget and so we set off to reach Kapishya Hot Spring before dark.
We did not see any Rhino but did see a herd of Buffalo right at Buffalo camp. The road from here on forward was a pleasure. The vegetation in North Luangwa is high and dense and we did not see much else as a result. We passed the airstrip and the .........station. From here on we climbed and climbed through beautiful scenery = as much a 1000 m. At a stage the temperature, according to the cars thermometer, was 50 degrees. We were happy to be in an air-conditioned environment. The forest up here is simply wonderful. We enjoyed the drive immensely.
All too soon we joined the tar road that would take us to the turnoff to the Hot Springs.
