Anita & Christine decided to stay at the camp, so we went to the park with Mike. One thing with the parks in Zambia is that they are quite expensive. You have to pay entry, fees, vehicles fees and the prices are in US$. Then you are only allowed to pay in Kwacha. Went they work the conversion rate, you get another surprise. In any case, we were both quite interested to see what the park looked like so we paid and went in.

The park looks very dry and overgrazed. Then further in and closer to the river, elephants every where. Adults, youngsters and many little ones. We got to a place where we had to turn back and look for alternative road as the elephants were on the road and not moving. Some serious buffalo herd and hippos.

Then we went to a road next to the river. You can appreciate the size of the Zambezi River. It is a few kilometers wide. Islands, hippos, elephants, crocs and whatever you can not see. Really beatiful.

We had some close encounters with elephants coming to drink water and as the road follows the river, you either wait or take your chances. A few times we took chances with young ones. The big ones with babies are to be left alone. So as soon as we had enough space, we rushed past them.

I suppose that going further east and close to the Moz border must be really wild. the roads narrows and closes up. In order to go all the way you will have to do some serious gardening.

Well, eventually we had to turn back as we had a long way back to camp. On the way out we had to cross the river Chongwe, were we had an earlier break and eat our sammies and drank some coffee. Well, in the same spot were we had the break, there was this huge croc, with other smaller one close by.

Never a dull moment.....

As some say, "Another tough day in Africa"
