We left Mbotyi with a good feeling. I would definitely recommend it. For anyone who truly wants to "get away from it all" this is the spot. Just remember to bring your own drinking water and by the way, the Lodge facilities are off bounds to campers although it is the same establishment. Nevertheless, it is “nice”.

Our next destination is Coffee Bay with a detour to Magwa Falls. Well worth the trip and the road in very good condition. The scenery changes completely on the way to the falls. One travels through kilometre upon kilometre of “Tea Plantation”. Some parts “overgrown” other parts harvested and yet other parts severelypruned. Not sure why. Our thought was that it was just such a huge plantation that things are done in stages. The processing plant seemed run down but still in operation.

Stunning old trees lined the road, most of them around 80 to 100 years old. From looking at the windbreaks protecting the tea plantations, one could tell that this farm goes way back.  This could be a great source of employment, but we did not see any activity in the plantation during our drive through.  Would like to find out what kind of tea they grow and why there is no workforce active in this rural community.

With that said, the view is breathtaking. I hope the few photos would give a good enough reflection of it.

MAGWA FALLS one arrives at the top of the falls. What a stunning   panoramic view. A few locals tried to get our attention wanting to direct us to different vantage points.

The drop is at least 50 m. The river flow is strong which makes for a wonderful sight.  There is a modern house (club house) on the edge of the cliff on the other side of the gorge. It has a magnificent view of the falls. (We did not go there). They young boys showing us around mentioned that it was the base for a camping site that soon will be open to the public.  In our opinion Magwa Falls should be on every ones list of things to see when visiting this area.
