Augrabis and Kakemas is HUGE grape country! I believe they say they are one up on the Cape. I would not have believed it, but having driven through the area, I do. A couple of wineries otherwise, I think, mostly table grapes and raisins.
It is simply marvelous to see such a prolific farming area and community. This is what the citrus industry used to look like a couple of years ago. We are well impressed. Dried fruit of any kind is for sale and fresh dates can be bought just about everywhere. A real novelty for us.
Chasing time to get to Upington we went through a little town called Keimoes
We had a few things to do in town. The one gas bottle had been leaking and we needed to fill the both of them. They were not able to repair it and so we just had it filled again. We cannot replace it as the number 10 gas bottles now have a different shape and does not fit into the trailers bracket.
Could send a parcel of to Layla and then went back to camp to get going with the blog. We fall behind from time to time as there is not always reception to use the internet. So please be patient.
We are on the way to Kgalagadi at the moment with full water tanks. A gentleman at the camp was telling me that they stayed in Kgalagadi just before coming and suffered a -9 degree night
We are following the RED Dune route along the tar road as we have to get to Kgalagadi before the gate closes. We will be staying in Twee Revieren, Nossobs and Mata-Mata (One night each).
The vegetation has changed to more of a savanna style and near Van Zylsrus and Askam one finds lots of trees. Kameeldoring trees. Carlos says that while I have been typing he has noticed lots of road kills – porcupine and foxes etc.
