Off to New York again and ready for fun after a lot of hard work and a long winter in my country. The "NY-bug" really got me and my airline company loves me. Despite the economic crisis I sense more positive vibes and hope now since Obama is the president. The dark years of Bush are over and the first step was closing down Guantanamo. Because of the crisis it is interesting to see that US is now more socialistic than a traditional socialistic country like Sweden (where we probably let the car industry die since it is not viable to produce cars anymore in a high-cost country). The US gov is not only helping the cars industry, but also taking over as owners. Hmmm... Not exactly capitalistic thinking, though understandable because of the jobs and how important the car industry in US is for symbolic reason. Well, in the long run, the car industry has got to go in high-cost countries. Back to New York... The crisis is not a bad thing when going to New York to have fun since prices have dropped and service is better. So this trip I had very good value despite an exchange rate that was not as good as before.
Below you can check out some of the places I went and see what I thought about them. All places are listed in the end. And do not forget to check out the pics too.
Botega del Vino was a genuine Italian place with a great wine list. It has lots of atmosphere and a great place to bring your love for wine and dine. Contrasting to the formal feeling of Bottega del Vino was the friendly Bubba Gump. Basic fried sea food with a friendly atmosphere and nice place to bring many friends for fun. The view is also great. This time around I did extra time in lower east side which I find interesting. Walking along Clinton St I found a basic Irish Pub called Donnybrook. Nice friendly bartender and I will go there again. In lower east side I had good and fresh food and drinks at Yuca Bar. The drinks are very good and not expensive. I had ribs and Southern food at Duke's. Good stuff, especially when walking a lot. Just walking along and looking for gifts to my kids I found "comic heaven" - Forbidden Planet. They have just about everything in comics and the personnel are VERY knowledgeable. So I bought comics to my kids who I am sure they will like (and also learn English). Latin Quarters at Lexington Hotel is where Latin people hang after work and with entrance fee you get a drink and some food. Pretty good. The place looked cool but it was a bit early for me to start dancing (Nordic guy needs some alcohol and later in evening to start dancing..LOL). Going French again... Les Halles was a nice place with basic French food. It is cool to see basic French cooking and not only the fancy cooking. One of my favorite places in New York is Le Bateau Ivre. Excellent wine and a waitress that really knows her wine. Great place to try new wines and broaden ones views. Super nice home-made "foie-gras" too. You got to try the place. O'Reilly's Pub had really bad Fish and Chips (where was the fish..). Stick to drinking beer if you go there. A positive surprise was Molly's in North Arlington, NJ. After a long day in New York, the night was finished with some snacks and beer at Molly's. Good DJ too. Live Bait 23 st is a new favorite of mine with good sea food and great energy. A lot of people from all classes having a good time. I also went to 2 "secret" places... "Please Don't Tell (PDT)" and "Rabbit". PDT, you had to make a phone reservation first and then they let you in from a phone booth. Nice cozy place. After PDT we went to Rabbit which is in the basement and very dark. Very friendly bartender and interesting beer. I highly recommend the "Dutch sour beer". Sony Style at Madison is heaven for all Sony lovers. They had so nice small lap tops and "big-ass" TV's. With all my eating and drinking I had to work out so I will not turn into a blob. Super gym in Belleville called Signature Fitness. It is very good and I like it even more than Gold's gym in Venice. So many non-nonsense machines, good free weights and a lot of sand bags for the fighters. Good atmosphere where people train hard. Very good protein drinks. If around Belleville in NJ, this gym is must to try out.
That is all folks for this time
