After my trip in May that was so good, I decided to go again to New York. So I went there the first week in June. I was also invited to stay with a friend in New Jersey so no hotel was needed, just an airplane ticket. My friend picked me up and we went to her home. It was great to stay in a house because I could do some cooking which I like very much. My friend was great and showed me new great places in New York. Since I waited too long to write this, I do not have the dates all clear, so I write down the places I went to in alphabetically order (I know a bit boring).
Cellar Bar in the Bryant Park Hotel was a cool experience. Dark and design like a cave in a castle and with bartenders in corsets was the signum of this place. The atmosphere was cool and drinks were good. It is good place to take a drink before going to clubs.
Club Macanudo was simply the best. It is an old cigar club that are still in business since the law against tobacco in bars etc was for places that only had a small part of their business in tobacco. If the place had at least 15-20% (not sure exactly how much) of the business in tobacco sales, the establishment could continue with indoor smoking and sales of tobacco. The ranges of cigars are the best non-Cuban ones (PS! When will US stop its policy against Cuba, it is 2008!!). Big range of cigars and also big range of cognac. Now that is a good combination. I had a small compact cigar with intense taste and a good cognac. There were also a wide range of people in there, from rich older men and women to a more young audience. To this, there were great Cuban music and great dancers. My friend tried to teach me some Latin dance and it was great fun, although I am pretty bad at it. Another cool thing was that one could have a private humidor and I had a picture taken of me next to Arnold's private humidor. This is a place I will regularly visit.
Flute is a champagne-bar that I do not recommend at all. The waitress had a really snobby attitude and the prices were so high. I was so turned off at the champagne prices; I just had a drink and left the place with a minimal tip.
Guantanamera is a Cuban restaurant with genuine Cuban food. I decided to only have several small dishes so I could try as many as possible of the food. With that I had a great Argentinean wine. They had friendly staff and I and my friend had great dinner and I tried some food that I have never tried before.
One night we went to Houlihans in New Jersey and it was a friendly place with great prices. Good place to go with many friends for eating and drinking a long time since the prices are so good.
Iguana Café was a place I went after the bad experience at Flute. They specialize in drinks and the drinks were very good indeed. My Mojito was perfect. I recommend this place for drinks.
Le Souk is a restaurant in East Village but at night it is a great House Club. It is very hip but still warm. They have 2 dance floors and the place is crowded. The dance floor on top, they had a live percussion player adding live percussions to the music from the dj. What an effect it was! The place was trembling from all the music and dancing. They also had some funky drinks, for example some red drink in an injection form and waitress gave you a shot straight in the mouth. I will go here again.
Red Eye Grill is a favorite of Stevie Wonder so I had to try it. It was a good restaurant with good food and service. But nothing really surprised me.
Until the next time
