On Sunday night, a few of us headed down to the beach to hunt for crabs! Basically what this involves is going to the beach, in the dark armed with torches and sticks and then pouncing on any crab that you spot! A good few were caught, mostly thanks to Mr Andy who just threw himself on top of them!
Last night we went to Victor's to say goodbye. As usual, our half hour visit turned into 2hours. On our way home, we called in with Ishika and Palini (afterschool teachers who are mother and daughter). When you visit people here, they always offer you food and won't take no for an answer. This resulted in me eating 7 bananas yesterday!
Preschoolers are still spending their days practising for the opening and colouring in. they have no chairs and tables at the moment as they are being painted, so this made breakfast and lunchtime fun, with them eating on the floor. Today was our last time ever to teach the afterschoolers, which we only found out at the end of the day. This is because tomorrow night there is an overnight prayer vigil (from 7pm to 2am) in the new classroom before the opening on Friday. Therefore there are no afterschool classes so the teachers can get home, however the children are coming for lunch. Tomorrow is going to be an emotional day as it will be our last at school as Thursday is Poya and Friday is the opening.
Tonight we headed to the beach for a game of Volleyball. I am please to say that I was on the winning team and have the bruised wrist to prove it. However I don't think any of us will make it as professional volleyball players! Our big mistake was probably that we played in the dark so couldn't see the ball-well that would have been the losers story! After a quick paddle, it was back to base for bacon sandwiches and a sing-a-long around the keyboard, thanks to Katy! The team have been working really hard painting the new building and the grounds for the opening. Mark and I will be getting our hands dirty come Wednesday afternoon and Thursday as there will be no classes. I don't know how sensible it is to let both of us loose with a paint brush.....
