Today Gourie who helps in the kitchen, was off so Milani helped to cook meaning she asked to teach her Preschool class. It just so happened that the 3 loudest and worst behaved where all present so it was all fun! I'm well used to them now and to be fair to them they did settle down to do their work. The preschoolers love "row row row your boat" at the moment, especially the bit where you scream at the crocodile.
Yesterday with the oldest afterschool class, I dictated a story to them about a visit to the zoo and they wrote it down. It was quite funny seeing the results - I think my accent had a lot to do with their spelling! All in all they weren't bad. I also started past and future tense with them. I only have the one afterschool class today and they leant some musical instruments.
3 girls who don't go to school are going to start coming in the morning to learn patchwork and how to use a sewing machine. Nearly every house here as one and most people make their own clothes, handbags etc. Apparently I'm going to learn as well! It's starting tomorrow.
The afterschoolers have found a new hobby - they our fascinated by the fact that when they hold our wrists tightly, our hands turns white and when they let go, they turn red as the blood starts to flow back! I feel I may need to change their focus to something else as I don't want my hand to fall off due to lack if blood!

hi there
Hi Caroline
Have been reading your blog for a bit now coz one of the guys from Smile put me your way. I'm looking to do a gap year out in Sri Lanka when I finish my A Levels next year so your blog has been really useful. Have Smile been good? And would you reccomend Sri Lanka as a good place to go and help out in?
Hope your hands don't fall off!
