Throughout last night it rained heavily so we awoke to find the usual places in the house had turned into mini swimming pools. Apparently there was thunder as well but I heard nothing! As well as the flooding, the rain also caused some of the sand out to front to turn into some sort of quicksand. This was unknown to us at the start of the day, so they first time I stepped in it, I lost my flip flop. We'll know in future!
This morning all the staff arrived to clean the school and kitchen. I'm not exaggerating when I say every cupboard, drawer and box was emptied out onto the floor and sorted and cleaned. It took us until early afternoon to get it all back into shape. So everything is now ready for Wednesday - all we need now are children!
In the middle of the cleaning we had a visit from a Pastor who had worked in Hambantota in the 80's. It was only when he left that I was told his name is Patrick!! Never did I expect to meet a Sri Lankan with such an Irish name! I think it's hilarious! No doubt his name is pronounced slightly more exotically over here, but it's still Patrick. Next thing you know we'll be bumping into Seamus and Connor!
Rain came again in the afternoon for a short time and I decided to take advantage of it and play basketball! It's the only time when it's slightly cooler for you to play! I'm not sneezing just yet from it! I'm trying to work out how to make a tempory basketball net - so far my "best" idea is to cut a hole in a large bucket and secure it onto a tree. Rather ingenious I think!
