Basty has lately tought me how to wake up early. Well, early for me means before 9 a.m. He has basically been able to do something my mother tryed for 18 years and never succeeded. The thing is, of course, if by any chance ever finding a job in the Porsche-city, I should be able to work like a maniac from the early hours on... Since we were awake already at 9 a.m. on a Saturday morning, we decided to travel to Esslingen, the neighbour city 10 km from Stuttgart. To get there, you can take the local train going to Esslingen from the main train station. Esslingen, the second biggest city in Stuttgart area, is located on the river Neckar and has some 100 000 inhabitants. The city dates back to the year 777 and has a very well preserved medieval city centre. In Esslingen you can find the oldest continuous row of half-timbered houses in Germany.
When in Esslingen, don't forget to take a peek at the Parish Church of St. Dionysus with its twin towers, the preserved city gates and towers and the Esslingen Castle. More info about the sites, check out www.esslingen-tourist.de.
