Our first night at Lake Malawi
Aug 26, 2009
Our first stop in Malawi was Chitimba. We spent our first night on the banks of Lake Malawi. Lake Malawi is one of the largest freshwater lakes in the world and it has many species of fish. This lake is so big, you cannot see the other side at all (kind of like Cold Lake…Sarah and Damian, you guys have some competition here.) We spent some time on the beach playing footy (soccer for all you American folks) on the beach.
So we were off from Zanzibar and headed back through Tanzania to Malawi. It was a couple of days of long drives but the card games sure kept us going. We have a really good group and played a lot of 500 (for anyone who does not know what that is, I am sure that you will learn it when we get back.) The truck we have been riding in was really hot, even with the windows open (I have been forbidden to call the truck a bus, apparently that is an insult to our driver because he is a truck driver, not a bus driver….personally I am not sure what the difference is.) We finally arrived in Malawi and were really surprised with the change in scenery. We thought that Africa would all be dry but Malawi was very green and fertile. There was also a lot of change in elevation as we drove through the country. I would have liked to spend some more time perhaps doing some hiking.
