Today was a long driving day, and nothing much happened, but we made some new friends.  Most of the day was spent looking at the view in the picture entitled "Mostly what we saw today".  If you look closely, I think you can see the Statue of Liberty in the background.

About an hour out of Albuquerque, we came upon a parade of 11 vintage Porsches.  We found out later, at a rest stop, that they were meeting another Porsche Club for a rally.  Great fun, and beautiful cars.

We turned South mid-morning, and headed across New Mexico for Texas.  Outside a little town in New Mexico, we let Ken out to do his business, and he came back with a new friend (See picture - Ken's new friend).

He had wandered beyond a fence that said "US Government property, Top Secret - Keep out".  If I recall, the name of the town was Roswell New Mexico.

Seriously folks, we just had to stop in Roswell.  They do not take themselves very seriously, and the space alien business is HUGE for the otherwise nothing town.  The downtown streetlights are a scream!  The T-Shirts in the alien shop are really clever, like: Alien, the other gray meat.  We had a fun time looking at the stuff.

We lost an hour going back into Central time (only 1 zone to go!), and arrived at Fort Stockton at 6:00 PM.  It is a nice one-horse town, but the horse left!  It was a stop on the Santa Fe Railroad, but no longer.  An exit on I-10 put them back on the map.  They have a giant Road Runner statue in "Downtown". (Wiley was nowhere in sight), and a sample Oil Pumper-thingy you can get an up-close look at.  Pretty neat.  All-in-all we saw a lot of open land.

Tomorrow it's off to San Antonio and Brother John.
