We got up this morning, and it was steadily raining.  It was a welcome change for a while, but as it got heavier, it got more upsetting.  The drive across southern Illinois was really quite pretty.  The rolling countryside was very green and lush, they must have had more rain than Cleveland this summer.  It is a very nice place to send Obama back to.  We spent the morning listening to Ms. Palin's nifty speech on the satellite radio.  When we got to St. Louis, it was pouring, and we had hoped to take some nice pictures of the Gateway to the West arch.  Instead we got misty pictures through the windshield.

As you can see, sandy had to protect poor Ken from the elements.  Rain makes his joints stiff (from rust).  The really neat thing about going from Illinois to Missouri was that gas dropped from $3.87 to $3.42.  (add Obama crack of your own here).

After the long morning, I was in a pretty crabby mood for the afternoon segment, when Sandy said "Quick, get off here!"  She had spotted a Hooters, and wanted some wings (and to cool me off).  I wanted to check the weather to see if there was any hope of losing the rain for the afternoon (it was the remnants of hurricane Gustav).  I would have taken the laptop with me but hooters with WIFI?  come on.   After a run through the rain, I saw this sign on the door.

Halleluja, my prayers are answered!  I ran back to the parking lot in the rain and got the computer.

After my computer lesson from the Hooters girls, Sandy decided to try her hand at composing an email for Max and Charlie in the car.  The new mini laptop worked out really well.

We finally got to the LaQuinta in kansas City (a really dumpy one they bought from someone else and remodeled, not like the nice ones they build themselves).  One of our destination places for the trip was a place called Arthur Bryant's Barbeque.  Sandy found it in the book "1000 places to visit before you die".  We found the original in the middle of "the HOOD".  Really, in the center of the projects!  If it had looked worthy of the listing in the book, we would have risked it, but they had another location in the navigator listing.  The other location turned out to be in one of the (many) Casinos in the area, so we went to that one.  On the way in, Sandy put a dolar in a slot machine and hit for $25 million, so you losers won't be seeing us again soon.  Just kidding, we ate at ArthurBryant's and it was as good as advertized.

Tomorrow it's off to Stratton, Colorado, just short of Denver.  I suspect that we will see more corn and wheat tomorrow that we ever wanted to see.
