Day 12 of our journey, september 12th began with fog and mist being eaten away by brilliant sunshine on the Isle of Grimsay.

We travelled back to Lochmaddy once more to an Internet Site and then headed north toward the ferry for the Isle of Harris via the ferry terminal located on the Berneray.  We were lucky to arrive at Stone on Berneray just a few minutes before the ferry departed for Leverburgh, Isle of Harris.

The crossing on this ferry took approximately one hour and was very interesting as the ferry litterally wove its way through a well marked channel between small islands and rock outcroppings - it seemed like a difficult route but probably not for the ferry Captain.

Once in Leverburgh we went northwest out of the town to meet with Bill Lawson at his Reseach Center a few miles outside the town.  After about a half hour meeting with Bill we returned to Leverburgh for lunch and then set off on the "Golden Road" or "Moonscape" route along the eastern side of South Harris.  It was quite the adventure as you will see from some of the pictures.

Later in the afternoon we ended up in Tarbet and then as the rain set in headed for our next B & B near Seilebost.  The beach scene here would have been stunning had it been a sunny evening but the rain and fog persisted giving the place a mystic beauty as we sat and enjoyed the dinner prepared by our hostess.  After dinner the three of us sat and chatted about what life had been like growing up in Harris and how it has changed over the years.
