Its always an arduous journey when you have to change planes. Travelling from San Francisco via United airlines was bad in itself but then a 4 hour wait in Frankfurt didnt help. The flight to Berlin was short and pleasant. Tegel airport is one of 3 airports in Berlin and only 5 miles from the center. It only has one terminal and no train link. I took a cab to the hotel for 18 euros which saved the hassle of trying to figure out where I was going.
The hotel was just a 10 minute walk from Potsdamer Platz and seemed like it was in an okay area. The room was kind of funky but clean. At least there was some character about the place. The doors on each floor made it look like an East German hotel.
Walks to Potsdamer Platz, Checkpoint Charlie. Quite an interesting city with no trams on the west side. The east side is definitely more interesting.
