This weekend we were invited to Alex and Sally's in Greytown. We drove over early on Saturday morning. I am getting used to going over the Rimutuka Hill now and don't even need to take Gravol anymore but I still don't drive it myself.
We did a 6 hour tramp in Mount Holdsworth. Did not get to the top as it was in cloud and there were gale force wind gusts which were a bit hard to manage. We stopped at the Rocky Lookout on the ridge of the first hill and it was very windy. I was carrying the pack at the time and when a gust of wind cought the pack it nearly blew my over. Good thing I was not near the ledge!
We stopped for lunch at the Mountain Hutt shelter and then took another way down which was less used and more difficult. In fact there were times when you had to find the next tree marker in order to know where to go. This route was not as well tramped and had a lot of tree roots and rocks to get over. It was 6 KM DOWN and out of the bush! It was actually harder than the 6 KM UP and into the bush. Someday I'd like to come back and do this again hopefully get to the top of Holdsworth weather and time permitting. Anyway I felt fine the next day and so am prepared to do an 8 hour tramp next week. Stay tuned!
We had a lovely dinner and overnight with Alex and Sally and headed back to Wellington late Sunday afternoon after mass, lunch and enjoying the quaint village of Greytown. Will post pictures soon. More thumbnails ...
