Here's just a quick post to let you know that we are fine and very safe in northern Thailand. Thanks for your emails of concern regarding the protests against the government in Thailand that have closed the airports in Bangkok.

This is the third country we've visited where the government faced such actions (Argentina and South Africa) during our stay. In all cases, we are extra careful--even though we've felt no concerns for our safety. Tourism is the bread and butter of Thailand and the last thing they would want is to harm any of us. The protesters blocking the airport have even been providing food and drinks to the stranded passengers. We don't anticipate this affecting us as we plan to travel by bus and boat.

We just finished our Thanksgiving turkey dinner here in Chiang Mai. It wasn't the same as it would have been at home. However, we have a lot to be thankful for this year, so the meal was extra special in that way.

We are taking a tour for the next few days to visit Karen and Hmong villages, ride elephants, etc. on a jungle trek. We've enjoyed two weeks of amazing Thai food (and some tacos and Reese's peanut butter cups!). We are even getting used to hearing and saying all sorts of things we would have never imagined such as:

"you'll have to talk to Dang, Meow, or Boom-Boom about that,"
"watch out for the guy carring the bamboo," and
"wash your hands before you touch your willy." (this was directed at the entire Thai cooking class, not just Ray).
