The next day, Audrey, Pat and I took an ealry 3-hour bus ride to Delphi. The drive there was beautiful as we were surrounded by mountains and valleys. In the middle of this scenic backdrop, Delphi is considered to be the centre of the earth - Zeus had sent to eagles around the world in opposite directions, and they met at Delphi. A rock stands there today to mark the exact spot of their encounter. Delphi is also considered to have divine presence, and attracted a steady flow of pilgirms because it was known for having the most truthful oracle in the world.

The sacred site itseld is vast and impressive, especially when you find out more about what used to lie there. But the calm setting of the mountains and the warmth of the sun made it a truly beautiful day - you could even hear a symphone of bells from the goats wandering the mountainside.

We had lunch on a terrace overlooking the valley below, and headed back to Athens in the evening. We met up with Rebecca once more, and went to a restaurant with an amazing tasting menu. Along with providing us with wine and dessert, the restaurant made us choose 10 traditional greek dishes to sampl, from spicy cheese to smoked fish. I love the way local food gives you a glimpse into the culture - everything was so delicious, and it made me feel like I was experiencing a little more of Greece.
