As predicted, this morning was rainy and hazy, but I headed for Meteora nonetheless. The bus came at 8:20 am, so I had a very early start, and headed to the farthest monastery at the top of Meteora. The monasteries were all incredible...you can see how monks could, and still do, live there. So simple, with beautiful churches - all the walls are completely covered in colourful paintings.
From the top monastery, I was pretty much in a cloud, so all I could see below me was an endless white abyss! As I made my way down and visited two more monasteries, I was getting out of the haze and could see the incredible rock formations around me. It's too bad that I happened to visit this amazing site on such a dreary day, but that's the nature of travelling I guess. I'm still glad I got to see some of it, and I walked an hour and a half down the hill back to my hotel to catch a train to Athens
I hopped on a train at 1:30pm, and had to switch about 30 minutes later for another train. As this one was completely crammed with people, I had to stand in an aisle for the other 4 and half hours of my journey...so I'm pretty exhausted again! Those three relaxing days seem to have vanished so quickly!
I'm staying in Athens for four nights, and hope to take a day trip to Delphi, and maybe one to Cape Soulio, if weather permits. Next, I have to start thinking about my Croatian adventure...but for now, I just hope the sun comes out for the next few days (well, actually, I hope it stays out for the next two months, but that might be too big a request!).

Standing
I cannot believe you stood up for 4 hours honey, how in the world did you that, your legs and back must have been so soar. Anyway, try to get a bit of rest before you start site=seeing again. Have you met someone to site-see with? I am still waiting for pictures....its ok when you have the time. Carmen is sending me the cd of pictures she took while she was here with us and there are many nice ones of you, especially the one on your birthday. I will send them to you. I miss you and continue enjoying your trip, be careful as always and have fun. It feels like you have been away for a year..strange ah.
Love you lots, hugs and kisses from us all.

P.S. Chanel says hi..heehee
ahh Athens...
awww standing for 4 hours on a packed train, that sucks. really i think that's worse than sleeping in an airport.
I remember all the smoke, dirt, snd attitude towards tourists in Athens (especially when they assumed I was American). I also remember the beauty, the history and I have some great stories from there. The Acropolis alone will be worth the adventure to get there (i hope)
Agreed
Standing in the train was no fun, but it had to be done! And yeah, it was worse that sleeping in the airport :)
Lori - I totally agree, the Acropolis was amazing, and the history here far outweighs the negative aspects of the city. But I'm looking forward to getting out of Athens for a few days in exchange for a more peaceful setting :)
