This morning, I took a trip to Jane Austen's 19th-century Bath! For the annual Jane Austen Festival, today's Grand Parade began in front of the Roman Baths, where a large number of people came dressed in 1800s fashion. Walking through the crowd of ladies and gentlement, it was like entering a time bubble! The many Austen references in this city have actually inspired me to start reading Persuasion, which, as it turns out, is also set in Bath!

I'm currently in London because of a few changes in plan. Originally, I intended to discover the Peak District National Park, but after some Internet research, I decided it wasn't worth the 3 trains and bus it would take me to get there. I've also heard from many travellers how much they've enjoyed Yrok, so that's where I'm headed instead. However, all the hostels in York are booked tonight, so was my hostel in Bath, and there are no overnight trains from Bath to York (unless you count the 8-hour layover in a London train station). I phone Shannon to see if I might be able to sleep on her couch for one night and she generously accepted! So now I'm back in London, and will move onto York in the morning. I'm spending two nights in that city, and will then be on my way to Edinburgh, from where I will take a 3-day Haggis tour of the Scottish Highlands.

The past few days in Bath have been amazing - relaxing yet filled with discovery and activities. I visited Stonehenge yesterday, which is approximately one hour away from Bath. We drove through traditional English countrysides, saw many pigs and sheep, as well as the Westbury white horse. Stonehenge was incredible - and it's so strange that, to this day, we still don't know why it was built, how or by whom. They know the first phase of it was built 5,000 years ago - 1,000 years before the Great Pyramids of Egypt. Some of the stones come from a town 130 miles away, and we have no idea how they managed to transport them to where they now stand.

I hope everyone is well :)

RE: Cutest puppy
Thanks, We call her Amy and she's 2.2 pounds. Better looking than Mr. Darcy right? Can't wait for you to see her Julie, by then she should be around 4 pounds.

So cute!
Mom- your puppy is really adorable. I can't believe it will only weigh 4 pounds. I think you should have named it Mr. Darcy though... ;)

Jack - too bad I missed you in London. Have fun in New York!

Dad - je vais essayer de gouter a un bon scotch, mais sans toi, je ne saurai pas quoi essayer!

Lori - it was hilarious to see them all dressed up...and so bizarre at the same time!

Oh - I've just decided to go visit the Lake District after Edinburgh (to make up for Peak District). Google it - it looks amazing!

Death Comes From the Right...
Crazy Miss Julie...the one piece of info I forgot to tell you was (which you've clearly figured out already) is that death does indeed come from the right in all these backwards places!!!! God bless the warnings on the street!!!

I'm jealous that you met Mr. Darcy!

Have a Starbucks for me ;)

Gen xoxo
