Today we made it to lovely Verdin, Manitoba.  That's not sarcastic, actually it seems like a nice town.  Again, the day went pretty well.  Our first stop was a quick one in Moose Jaw, just long enough to feed Connell, stop at Tim's and get a picture of Brenna with the giant Moose.  Then it was on to Roleau (aka Dog River).  Took a few pictures, had lunch and moved on.  Just outside of Roleau, Connell got stung by a bee that invaded our car (sniff, sniff).  All was eventually all right, though and we trucked on, just stopping to get gas and take a picture at the welcome to Manitoba sign.  When, by the way, did Manitoba change it's slogan from "Friendly Manitoba" to "Spirited Energy"?  I liked Friendly Manitoba, and what the hell does Spirited Energy mean anyway?

Today seemed to be a day for interesting sineage on the highway.  First there was the sign not far from Swift Current on the number 1 highway that said Transportation...Your Tax Dollars at Work - after which the car went ca-chunking over the worst stretch of highway we've seen so far Brenna and the Moose
Brenna and the Moose
.  Then there was the Indian Head, SK town sign which proclaimed the slogan "A Progressive Prairie Town".....interesting alongside the name Indian Head, and the giant Indian Head they have there.  Finally for the highway, there was the "Construction Alongside Highway" sign, letting us know that they really were doing something with that long stretch of blacktop and machines that were there, not just for show.

I think that the long stretches of doing not much else but think is starting to effect my thought processes.  The town of Verdin has a restaurant called "The Chicken Chef".  What do you think that means?  Does the chef cook only Chicken?  If so, does he/she cook something else to go with it (like rice or potatoes) or is it Chicken only?  Or, does it mean that the Chef is just a big chicken (ie. Afraid of everything), sort of the opposite of the Iron Chef?  In either case, given the billing, I'd be disappointed if the Chef wasn't wearing a giant chicken suit.  All unanswered questions, I'm afraid, as I was walking the dogs when I saw it and couldn't go in.

Come to think of it Verdin is a little odd in more than just it's restaurant names.  I walked past a house that had it's kitchen proudly displayed in it's front room big picture window.  Just as I was getting back to the campground on my dogwalk,  saw a light coming toward me and realized it was the old person scooter that I had seen parked outside a convenience store when I was on my way out with the dogs.  I thought it was odd, cause it was parked in the middle of the grass, far from the door, and usually it's old people who can't walk very well who ride these things, and why wouldn't they park it next to the door?  Well, as it drew alongside, I had my answer.  It wasn't an old person driving - it was a big guy, probably my age, smoking a cigarette and riding the thing like it was a Harley.  Interesting.

Anyway, this is long enough.  Hope everyone is doing well, catch you next time.

Hello
Sounds like you guys are making good time and doing well. I do have to say that the picture of Brenna in front of the Ruby is adorable!

Glad to see you guys are doing alright and still having fun. (and I agree, I think it is that the chef is a chicken!)
