We started off today with a Taxi Ride to the Center of Hollywood, where its all happening - Hollywood Blvd outside Graumans Chinese Therater.  This is where all the stars have their hands and feet cast in concrete.  I found Arnold Schwarzenegger's cast and Char found here her George Clooney.  Shannon has my pictures on his camera, so Ill upload them after he emails them to me.
It was great getting this close to fame, this and the stars stars on the pavement really threw it home where we were.  ( The Red carpet event I saw last night also was a fantastic reality check.
Seeing the paparatzi calling out names for photos from the otherside of the TV was awesome.

Then Shannon and us went for a tour of the Kodak Theater  - where the Oscars are held. This tour was one of the highlights of LA for sure we all agreed, as our guide literally walked us through the Oscars night from a movie starts perspective, giving us a look at behind the scenes and actually inside the theater itself.  We were not allowed to take any pictures, or even have any recording devices in our hands.  They guard their copyright very well, not even press are allowed inside on Oscar's night.  They all actually report from next door, and lie by saying they are reporting live from the Oscars.  We did get a momento to keep that you cant buy anywhere.  A photo of the view from the Oscars stage, just what the oscar winners would be looking at when giving their winning speeches !

After grabbing a Starbucks Shannon and I found Arnold Schwarzenegger's Hollywood star, and we took a couple of great photos which you will see later.   I overcame some embarrassment to strike a great pose at Shans urging.  Thanks Shan ! I am going to love that photo ! Of course we were quoting Arnie while the photo was snapped.

Then we were off on a Hop on and Off tour of LA.  It was OK, but in hindsight, it would have been better to keep the hire car an extra day and see things at our own pace.  You get soo much more in, and dont have to always be rushing to make the next tour bus ( in 40 min intervals).  Thats if you dont mind driving in crazy traffic though.  You know how Perth drivers are always said to be quite bad - well we are, its true even against LA, but you know what the difference is ?  In Perth, you use your horn to hurry someone up, or cut someone off, you are liable to end up in hospital following a road rage incident, at least cop a verbal barrage of abuse.  Here in LA, the horn is a natural extension of your car, to be used as often as indicators. Its used liberally to hurry cars along in front of they are 2 seconds late in turning a corner or having the audacity to slow down and have a look around.  No one takes offence at being honked, no drivers ever got angry besides a shake of the head in bad cases.  Everyone is paranoid about pedestrians, and I feel safer crossing the road here in busy LA than on the roads back home. You even look like thinking about using a pedestrian crossing, and cars are slowing down quite a ways away.  I saw a car, probably being driving by a tourist start to squeeze in front of 2 older citizen pedestrians, and a random guy stepped forward to yell at the car, telling the driver off.  When the car kept on trying, he stepped onto the road still abusing the driver, forcing the car to stop and let the people cross.

Then we moved into Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills and windows shopped all the swanky shops. Lots of Pics to follow later.  Here is one of the kids in front of Cartier.  I asked them to strike a pose ! In one very exclusive place called "Bijan" you have to call to make an appointment/request to shop there, and a suit costs $15,000.  Only for the seriously rich, if they let you in that is ...

We had lunch at the Farmers Markets, a old markets, same as we have them in Perth, but alot bigger. Here Lauren saw one of her highlights, the "American Girl Place" doll shop.  There are only 3 stores in the world, Las Angeles, New York and Chicago.  The entire store was like a beautifull work of art, dolls everywhere.  Here is a photo of Lauren in front of some of their 'Dolls Like You" range. There is even a beauty Saloon, where your doll can have a makeover, with new clothes and a new hairstyle, complete in a hairdressing chair and everything.  Even I was very impressed, Lauren was over the moon.

Then we made a stop at the Hollywood cemetary, thinking it was gojng to be great, and it was execpt no-one famous has been buried there for a long time.  Some old stars, back when it wasnt in a run down neighbourhood.  Now a days the only stars, are the ones that come out at night up above.  We were dropped off at this stop, and it was pretty much normal LA, without any other tourists around, and off the bus went, leavin us to it for 40 minutes.  We had to walk 10 mins to get to the front gate, as we were dropped off at the side !  Only had time to find one grave we recognised, Estelle Getty from that show Char remembers.  The kids liked it, because it had about 1 million cute squirrels running all over the place. Gardeners probably kill them like rats.

Then the Bus did come back, and we caught it back to the Hotel for an early night, as Tomorrow is Universal Studios !  We caught up with Shannon on this Bus as it got back into the Grumans Chinese Theater / Hollywood district.  He had left our tour circuit earlier in the day to catch the yellow line down the Venice Beach, where Arnie trained in his first proper Movie " Pumping Iron".  It must have been a long ride, because he had to rush off for his Lakers game tonight.  I watched some of it live on cable, but didn't see him in the stands.

At the hotel, we ate in, and because we had been promising Sean a swim for the last few days if he was good, he had one in the Hotels pool.  While it was heated, it was really just enough to take the chill off, as you can see from his face.  He lasted about 5 minutes before having enough heheheh.

Of yeah, last night, Char felt like a night in so Shan and I hit LA together at night and had a great time.  We had dinner at a typical place, two guys would goto in a US city. It starts with a H and ends with a S and features very attractive waitresses.....  drank Bud and caught up on all our holidays to date. We did stay out a bit late,so I better get to bed too !
