We missed Kismet the day before - my Uncle Will told me about this place, because it has a huge Discount outlet for brands such as Levi's and Nike, but I thought it was after San Simeon but it was just out of SF ! Oh well, the one pair of Jeans I brought with me are getting a little fresh now, so plan B will be to find another pair of good pants to wear on a casual basis.
We found a Walmart on the GPS and checked it out. It felt exactly like a massive K-mart or BigB, with a McDondalds inside and a full supermarket thrown in for good measure. We found some discontinued lines, and grabbed some nice $2 tops for lauren and a nice outfit. Sean got a gold trimmed Hard Rocker "SpongeBob and Patrick" T-Shirt for $5 and some pants for another $5
We then made it to Santa Barbara, where the main part of town is totally spanish style buildings. We got a couple of souveniers and walked the town for an hour and a half, grabbing some lunch. Then we got back on the road. here we got lost, because the GPS was mis-programmed as I used a way-point to adjust the route, and it took as back to it because we didn't actually pass through it. Wont be doing that again lol. As fate/luck would have it, this caused us to drive past the Point Mugu Navel Base and visit Missile Park. Here are two real ex fighter aircraft, decommissioned and mounted like model planes. But these were real ones ! Plus all the air to air, and Air to surface missiles past and present used by the air-force. I took a picture of each one of course, but they are too many to upload here. It was so wicked.
Just outside of Malibu, there was a very serious head on smash ahead of us earlier in the day. Three ambulances and two patrol cars, plus Fire was there. We were lucky and only had to wait for about 20 minutes before the road was cleared. It must have been there for a while, as people had left their cars to walk down the road for a better view of what was going on. Must have been couple of hundred cars over 3 miles waiting, as we could see the huge line form our spot as it curved around following the coast in front of us
Malibu was not as impressive as the blurb and what you see on TV. Most of what we could see from the road was worn and run down, with the rich houses either up on the beautiful hills, or right on the beach with beach private frontages - blocked from view to plebs driving past gawking. It was past in 10 mins my recollection of the place was being sort of cut off by a rich ?$%?#% in a new porche as he raced in front of me, into a service station in Mailbu. We both entered, and I thought how thankful he must be, no doing that in WA, were he would have been road raged into a painful lesson, new porche or not. He even looked and acted stuck up. His wife stayed in the car adjusting her makeup artfully in the rear view mirror without actually doing anything.
Entering LA, the traffic gradually kept building and building, and we traversed some of the major freeways to get to our hotel, at one time, 5 lanes on our side. And all full of cars, even on the Sunday afternoon ! We checked in, and I had to squeeze the car into the Hotels underground car park. I did a 1 million point turn inside and reversed into the only bay large enough to hold the beast, which was ironically in the deepest corner of the garage ! Probably why it was free at 7:30pm at night. The roof racks only just cleared the ceiling pipes by millimeters and I'm not exaggerating. I only noticed after I got out, and the only reason I know it fitted, was because I got in. Now the luggage is out, it might not get out again lol. So we are checked in Safely, and despite Char saying she wanted to write a blog, her and the kids are all soundly asleep - an I am going to join them.
