So here we are... We left the big city to go to Latacunga, 2.5 hours away South from Quito. Yesterday we couldn´t go on our day trip to Cotopaxi (cancelled by the agency) so we stayed pretty much in Quito. We got to know the bus system with the locals... Went to Mitad del Mundo, where the Equateur line is supposed to be. Made our way back, then had a walk in Quito and discovered new streets. In the evening there was an outdoor concert so we went there, got a drink and went "home". We were in bed by 9pm. I know, pretty lame, but we´re still kind of jet-lagged and hassled by continuous headaches during the day. Hope we get used to the altitude because tomorrow is going to get worse! We are going on a 2-day tour to the Quilotoa Loop, which should be really good! Visit of the crater lake, some hiking, then excusrion in a cloud forest.
So we arrived in Latacunga around noon after a morning of struggling with the backpacks and the buses. Found a decent accomadation and strolled around the city. It´s much quieter than Quito (which Simon loves) and it feels a bit more authentic. The market place is amazing, that´s when you feel really far away from home... It´s hard to describe. People-gazing is amazing here. We stayed there for a drink in a little stall (Ecuadorian beer approved by Simon) and watched people playing volleyball. Yes, apparently Ecuadorians are big into volleyball. I wanted to jump in but thought that it would be calling for troubles ;-) Anyway, time to go to bed, tomorrow is an early start!
