Where I stayed
So we're finally, officially, heading north today – homeward bound! It was really interesting planning this leg of the trip because there were so many options (in terms of state parks and great sights) to check out, but we think we’ve found a good balance and look forward to more camping up the coast. It wasn’t a long goodbye with Lisa & Brian either, mostly because we’ll be seeing them again next weekend when they’re up in Seattle! Have gotten my mum and brother Daniel to come down too so it’ll be nice to touch base with them, even before we’re in Vancouver.
Nothing terribly exciting along the drive today – was mostly more inland in California and crossed over a new bridge we hadn’t crossed before, and the temperature was really rising. When we stopped in Williams for lunch, it was hovering around 42C – quite the heat again! We kept heading north on the I-5 and finally made it to Redding. It was blazing hot-humid still, but we made one stop in Redding at Turtle Bay, to check out the Sundial Bridge. It is just that – a bridge that has a massive-as sundial on one end! It is quite cool, although we couldn’t tell the time (the sun was setting, that’s all we knew). Still quite warm, we stopped by the shops to pick up a few provisions and then stayed up to watch the All Blacks take on South Africa in NZ – what a game!
