Where I stayed
So we had a few things planned this week, mostly around the wedding and spending time with friends that had all come in for the wedding. It was a great week and here's how it all unfolded:
Monday: We had tickets for Lilith Fair down in San Francisco – I was so excited that we were actually going to make one of the concert dates, as I had usually gone each year back home in Vancouver with girlfriends. Needless to say, Cam wasn’t thrilled of all day with girl music, but was such a good sport about it all (and enjoyed himself in the end!). After packing up our tent, then checking into the hotel, we grabbed some good mex to eat and then joined the holiday traffic down to San Fran. Shoreline Amphitheatre is actually a really great venue, and it was just nice to lie on the grass in the sun and just wait for the mainstage shows to start
Tuesday: It’s always great to watch big matches with people from the home-teams, so it was fantastic to watch the Netherlands semi-final game with the Stephens clan this morning (and it helped that they won!). Afterwards, I went for pedicure with Becky’s sister Bridget and niece Maggie, while Cam stayed back and tossed the rugby ball with the boys. We soon thereafter met up with the rest of the friends and family again for a walk through some Redwood forests, a quick trip to see the Russian River, and then onward to the town of Healdsburg for burgers & brews at the Bear Republic Brewery! I wanted to give a trial run at Becky’s wedding hair tonight (just in case!), so while Becky and I played around with her hair, we left Cam and the other boys to roll all the cutlery for the wedding of course ;)
Wednesday: One more semi-final match, so we met at the Patterson’s Pub in Windsor to see who would be matching up with the Netherlands in the final
Thursday... Wedding Day!: The morning was filled with prep – Cam went off to help set up the site, and I went to pick up Becky from her nails and of course get the ever-important pre-wedding deli sandwich lunch J The hair went off well, and even helped with the flower girls. Then it was back to get us ready and board the yellow school bus to the wedding! Yes, of course Becky got a yellow school bus... and I went slightly back into teacher mode when she put me in charge of making sure everyone got on the bus at the hotel that needed to. Really – anyone dressed up at 2:30 on a Thursday afternoon looking for a yellow school bus got on! The wedding was brilliant. Kenwood church is so cute, and the quick walk down to the Depot for the reception was fantastic. We got the privilege of having dinner with the gay pastor (who enlightened us on great sights of San Francisco, and then some!), and then dancing the night away with all. It was really great for me to finally meet a lot of Becky’s family and friends and she’d had talked so much about over the years. And no wedding would be complete without a singing ride back to the hotel on the yellow school bus – with the bride and groom of course!
