On the first day we visited the Mehrangarh "Majestic Fort" is located in the very center of the city and is visible from any where in the city. It was originally built in 1806 and built onto many times. There was a very good audio tour, and that in part made this one our favourite forts. They said the fort looks like it was built by giants and angels.
A prime attraction of the city is clock tower and the sadar Market near it. These colorful markets selling everything from saris to spices (with the odd bull wandering through) are situated in the heart of city. This is where the shopping of all shopping happened. As Dad talked up the shop owners, Mom went about her business and she is a very shrewd haggler. At times I think the shop owners were confused and had trouble keeping up with her. After three (yes three) hours of looking and negotiating they walked away with everything they wanted.
On our third day in Jodhpur we took a taxi out to the small town of Oisen. There was a great Hindu temple and a wonderful Jain temple in this small town. The Mahavira Jain temple is dedicated to the last (24th) Jain Prophet. The main temple was constructed around 775 A.D. And until about 15th century, the other smaller shrines were being added to the main complex. Ossian holds a great significance for the Jain community because the Oswal Jains (a rich trading community) came from Ossian. The temple priest gave us a personal tour and explained many of the restoration efforts, which really added to our visit of the temple.
