We started our three day tour of Halong Bay with the normal confusion and disorganization that we have become accustom to from these tours.  There were the four mini bus rides to the coast  where we boarded the boat only to move a few hundred meters to stop and have lunch.  From there we went to the Heaven's Palace Cave - a large limestone cave that was huge inside and lit up with many lights making it very interesting.  It's called Heaven's Palace because of an opening that looks like Heaven when the Sun is at the right angle.

Our tour had called for us to spend our first night on the boat in the Bay but we could tell already that this was going "off the rails".  We were then taken to Cat Ba Island for the the evening.  We saw a breathtaking sunset that night, and wandered the little town.  Lots of pearls (but we didn't buy any).

The following morning we were taken and dropped off at the entrance to the Cat Ba National park.  We hiked up to a lookout tower.  In the extreme heat and humidity I am not sure that I ever sweated so much.  The hike was only 2 hours, but that was more then enough.  After convincing our guide that we really did want to spend the night o the boat, he arranged for us to be taken out to a houseboat.

After the 3 hour boat ride we arrived at the boat which was huge and very nice - a luxury upgrade because of their disorganization!  Yeah!  We went sea Kayaking for a little bit around the beautiful pinnacles in Halong Bay, then returned to the boat to watch the sunset.  The sunset over the bay was most probably the most beautiful one we have seen yet.

We have been watching the weather a little with a Typhoon coming, and we were told that first thing in the morning we would head for port as the typhoon was heading more towards Vietnam now and was going to be close to us.  Back to Hanoi it was!  A lot of people had their stay in Halong Bay cut short and were a little upset, but really, do you want to be caught in a typhoon?
