We wanted to see the Mekong Delta area of Vietnam, and thought a good way of making our way to Ho Chi Minh City was through this lush area.  Our three day trip took us from Phnom Penh, Cambodia to Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnam.

The Mekong Delta is Vietnam's rice basket - this area alone produces enough rice to feed the country (of 83 million people) with a surplus.  On our boat ride from Cambodia to Chau Doc, we saw this sleepy and scenic region at it's best: water buffaloes, kids playing and swimming in the water, houses on stilts to accommodate for the rainy season's floods, and lush rice paddies.

The tropical fruit (along with the chaotic markets that sell them), are a feast for the senses.  We ate rambutan, lychee, pineapples.  Yum!

Another highlight of this region are the daily floating markets.  We saw them up close from Can Tho, and virtually every food item you could want from this area was being bartered and exchanged on these little boats in the Delta.

Calvin also got to have his beloved Pho in Vietnam!  He was craving it almost as much as macaroni and tomato juice!  :)
