Our morning in Lake Bled started with the hopes of going for a hot air balloon ride. The weather was a bit unsettled and the winds were not exactly favorable, but we managed to get the flight in! As we waited for the winds to improve, the guys from the balloon outfit took us out for some coffee. The coffee was good, but the company was even better. They were a lot of fun and we also got to know another gentleman from Lapland, Sweden, who was on the flight as well. He was on an eight-week trip through several countries.

The balloon ride was amazing! The views of Lake Bled and the Julian Alps were just beautiful. We had an hour flight and upon landing, we were all made honorary Barons and Baronesses of Slovenia! We were given very official certificates and were treated to a slice of the famous Lake Bled Cream Cake.

While the rest of us ballooned, Lynn decided to do some jogging and bike riding around the lake, which she said she really enjoyed (how could she not, given the beautiful setting!).

Next we set off in row boats to Otok Island in the middle of Lake Bled. The boats were compliments of the hotel. It was a lot of fun to get out on the lake. It took a few moments for the rowers to get their rhythm down, but everyone made it over to the island. We climbed the 99 steps to the church and all took a turn pulling the rope to ring the church bells (Dwight stayed back in his room to get some rest).

After the island excursion, the fun continued with a summer luge ride! Lynn and Dad were not interested, but the rest of us enjoyed a ride down the side of a large hill. We had done a luge ride in Austria in 2008 and we all agreed that one was a bit more fun, but still enjoyed the ride today.

To keep this busy day going, we headed to Vintgar Gorge. This gorge has a river running through it, with lots of cascades and a few waterfalls. It was an enjoyable walk through the gorge, but Dad was starting to get a little worn out, so we decided it was probably time to get some dinner.  We ate at a local place that used an outdoor grill to prepare a lot of its food. We really had a nice meal

It was a busy day for sure, but one we will never forget...
