Today I made a really good start to the year - a day whitewater rafting! The river was much stronger than the River Tay and we didn't play any games where we could fall out of the raft although we were allowed to go for a quick dip at one point as long as we hung onto the boat. It was definitely a nice way to begin the year if a little hard work at times! Even though the rafting only lasted about an hour I was away from the hostel for about 8 hours between the journey out to the rafting centre, getting all the equipment sorted, a journey in a very, very well packed bus and then a long safety talk where we were told over and over again not to try and stand up if we fell out! The river started off reasonably smoothgiving us a chance to practice before the bigger rapids further down. It was brilliant fun!! Once we got back to the rafting centre there was time to relax by the pool before heading back into the city and an early night since I was up until 3am celebrating the new year.

Last night wasn't exactly a typical Hogmanay but it was quite fun all the same. A group of Argentinian guys in the hostel were having an asado and kindly invited everyone else to join them. After I'd spoken to everyone celebrating the new year arriving in the UK I headed out to the patio. The steak that they'd cooked was excellent and we managed to have a good laugh, getting by with a good mixture of spanglish! I had a taste of fernet and coke but decided to stick with my beer as it was a bit bitter for me. Unfortunately the surrounding buildings blocked our view of the fireworks at midnight but the blue moon (which wasn't actually blue!) provided a beautiful view on it's own.

I can't believe that it's 2010 already - 2009 was a pretty good year, I think I'd struggle to pick out the highlights because there are so many. I'm looking forward to many more adventures in 2010. Of course one of the highlights will definitely be going home and seeing everyone that I miss no matter how much I'm enjoying myself travelling.
