Where I stayed
On Wednesday afternoon a 4 and a half hour journey (with a pit stop in a service station last refurbished in the '60s) from Ottawa took me to Toronto. I had a quiet night – sitting doing nothing is surprisingly tiring and the pesky ant bites on my ankle had swollen it up to twice it's usual size. On Thursday morning I had a walk through downtown Toronto and then caught the ferry across to Centre Island. Going from the city to the island was a huge change – except in the temperature which remained just as hot!
A short walk took me to the beach on the far side of the island where I went for a paddle in the cold water of Lake Ontario. I took my time wandering down to Hopkins Point to see the view back to the mainland, occasionally paddling again and stopping to munch some delicious Oreo cookies! Then I made my way back to Centre Island for a wander round Centreville (the small theme park) and the farm where I saw not one..
Friday morning I had more of a look around Yeong St and some of the parks in the downtown area then headed for the world's tallest freestanding building – the CN tower for a slightly different view of the islands. The distance that I walked the day before looked much less from 117 stories up! After looking at the views from around the tower I went down 3 stories to look through the glass floor to the street below and get some practice for the skywalk at the Grand Canyon by having a walk across it. Mind you, the skywalk is 4 times as high so I'm not sure it really counts! My final stop in Toronto was the sports bar round the corner from the hostel where I got some fish and chips and watched some american football.
