Left Grand Rapids drove north towards the top of the Michigan hand to Walloon Lake. My parents sent me up to Walloon Lake for 4-5 weeks when I was 14, 15 & 16 years old to stay with my Great Aunt Dorthy and Uncle Harvey SR. My mom's 1st cousin Harvey and his wife Harriet Schach own two cottages on Walloon Lake. They use to own the general store and marina on Walloon Lake. I would hang out at the general store with Debbie who worked at the store and my 2nd cousin Jay Harvey and Harriet's son who ran the marina. They would let me drive the beautiful Chris Craft speed boat from the cottage to the marina and back when ever I wanted to. On the weekends Harvey would come up from Cleveland and race sail boats and look over things. During the week I would go fishing with my Great Aunt Dorthy on her pontoon boat. What a beautiful place just like the lake in the movie On Golden Pond.
We arrived at the lake first and waited for the cousins to arrive for Memorial Weekend. Connie, Chris and her friend John arrived around 4:00 we made dinner. The boys played on the dock and tried to catch Minos till late. The sun goes down around 9:30 this time of year up this far north.
