Clif Walk by Mansions then Cape Cod MA

Loading Map
Had breakfast at the Sun-Rowley house very windy as we left RI. We drove over a couple bridges with high winds very exciting in the RV. We stopped in Newport RI along the Cliff Walk where you can see the huge beautiful mansions of the Vanderbilt's etc with long lawns stretching down to the Atlantic. We drove over the Cape Cod Canal dug for ship traffic up and down the Atlantic to the end of the Cape at Provinctown. This is where the Pilgrims first landed before Plymouth because they saw whales along the coast. They soon figured out that it did not have fresh water or game to eat. They could see Plymouth across the gulf and headed west to Plymouth. After trying to drive through the narrow streets and trying to find parking or an open campground we headed west again towards the Main land of MA. We made it to a small town on the Cape called Brewster MA and a nice uncrowded private campground called Sweetwater Forest. We passed cranberry bogs along the way they were just starting to grow cranberries which will be ripe in October.
