Before going to Chile, I have come to Playa Del Carmen, about 45 kilometers south of Cancun, Mexico, for a week of cigars, books, beers, and beach boredom.  Playa´s not so bad.  It has a height limit of about three stories, so it doesn´t look like Cancun, Acapulco, PV, Mazatlan, Acapulco, etc.  Still, it is basically a strip of hotels, restaurants, bars, tacky shops, and fat American couples.  The only singles appear to be 22 year-olds from Mexico City´s upper middle class.  I have been hanging out at "DJ´s", where the owner DJ (a 36-year old ex-Army, ex-flight attendant, refugee from the states) refuses to play any music other than rock, funk or soul.  No techno, no disco, no salsa, no rodeo, etc.  I´ll try to post some pics from Chile, but there isn´t anything that exciting.
