Hawaii-Hilo (The Big Island)
Up at 2am to view the molten lava drip into the ocean...this was my favorite port...Enterprise rental. Headed South to the Volcanoes National Park to the Crater Rim Drive tour. We saw steam vents, Kilauea Overlook, craters, lava flow desert, lava tube hike and pit crater. Mauna Loa Nut Factory was a self-guided tour that began with facts along the drive in, tv's that guide you through the process and at the shop many samples were had...we purchased a multi pack and Mark had a Macnut ice cream cone. Next was the drive by the stones in front of the library on the way to Rainbow Falls. Took the Banyan Tree Drive that had famous names from those that donated a tree (Amelia Earhart, Babe Ruth, Etc.). Big Island Candy Factory was a window view of the process, but had to purchase a few treats. Hilo Hattie is at every port, but we did not visit until here. Free shell lei and drinks...we pick up some guava treats for work.
For next time...Akaka Falls, Pacific Tsunami Museum, and Coconut Island.
Nap was needed and just made it to dinner!
