Santa Barbara is a beautiful town that sits in the middle of a beach setting and mountain back drop.  The beach town is the epitome of what one would vision a town in California to look and feel like - surfers running around, college town vibe, bike trails, wineries, mountain sides, cool breezes, warm sun, large wide beaches and winding cliff trail roads. Years ago Santa Barbara was struck by a tremendous earthquake, upon rebuilding its then mayor required the structures to resemble the Spanish architecture of its mission...downtown and surrounding areas mirror this request.

Too cold to hang out on the beach, we instead took in the town and even watched the "A-Team" movie which was great.  The following day we jumped on our bikes and spend the afternoon touring around Santa Barbara, and closed the day with watching the Laker / Celtic final game 6..the town was jumping.

On Wednesday we left Santa Barbara and headed up to wine country and visited the towns that were featured in the "Sideways" movie such as Solvang, Buellton and Lompog.  It was a lot of fun to retrace the steps taken by Miles and Jack and see the wineries where certain scenes took place.  Prior to the release of that movie Santa Barbara wine country was less known than that of Sonoma or Napa.  Thanks to the movie, the tourist population has increased dramatically and roads that use to be dirt roads had to be paved over to accommodate the traffic. You can easily get a Sideways brochure and follow along in Jack and Miles' footsteps.   We finished our tour in Lompog and had great lunch at a local diner together with local farmers (with their dogs waiting for them outside sitting on the back of their trucks - really cute).

Restaurants worth mentioning:
Jalama Beach Cafe - Lompog: Great burgers and sandwiches
Bucatini - Santa Barbara:  Great pasta dishes!
