Here I was on a plane to Heathrow airport (in London) beginning my field marketing internship with Contiki Holidays, a travel and vacation company that caters to the young traveler, mainly 18-35 yr olds. As one of the 45 chosen interns, Contiki Holidays was providing me with an all-inclusive, two-week tour through Europe. My excitement was barely containable as I thought about all the new sights I would see and the amazing people I would undoubtedly be sharing lifelong memories with. My flight is not too bad, only a mere 5 hours. I am passing the time by flipping through Marie Claire. July 26, 2006 I've arrived in London! Me and Lily, a Contiki intern from Miami, decided to be classy and have afternoon tea at the Palmer Court in the Ritz. So we got dolled up in our dresses and heels and made our way to the hotel. It was absolutely gorgeous inside! It totally channeled Old World glamour. (there was even a pianist playing!) We received a tray of finger sandwiches including cucumber and cream cheese triangles, salmon sandwiches as well as scones and pastries. In addition, we each received a pot of tea (I ordered Jasmine, my favorite). After our totally British teatime, me and Lily headed back to the Imperial Hotel at Russell Square (where we were staying for the three days we were in London) and napped in a desperate attempt to fight off our jetlag.
Later that evening, a bunch of Contiki interns grabbed some spirits at a local pub in town and got acquainted. Afterwards, everyone headed off to Trafalgar Square for some fun and then headed to a park where we polished off a few bottles of wine (there are no laws against public drinking in the UK unlike the US so most of us agreed it was a good idea to abuse the absence of such a restriction). July 27, 2006 For our last night in London, we were treated to a traditional British meal in Covent Garden (which was VERY bad! The Brits may be gorgeous and import hotties like David Beckham and Jude Law annually but they are seriously horrible cooks) The dinner consisted of a pie-like entree (similiar to a chicken pot pie) with a side of mashed potatoes and was followed by a rich pudding. Of course everyone also indulged in some British stout and whiskey (taking advantage of the drinking laws in Europe) After dinner, I went back to my room and packed (we were going to Paris the next day!)
