We parted from Mark at about 1130 and he set off on the Panorama trail. Initially the hike was lovely, the air was good and the trail was surprisingly empty but after about a mile and half in, we started to descend more steeply and it became increasingly difficult to keep your footing. We all had sensible shoes on but the loose sand that covered some of the trail made it slippery in places and you most certainly did not need to slip near to the edge
We all suffered from aching calves and the last part of the hike was very hard - I now know that 4.4 miles going downhill(and descending over 3,000 ft!) is not for the faint hearted and it also got much warmer as we got lower towards the valley floor. Paul had fortunately placed the car near to the end of the trail and we were all so grateful to sit down!
Once again we recovered at the Yosemite Lodge and then met up with Mark who said that most of his trail had been flat (!!) walking through meadows and his views had been spectacular too. Needless to say we all needed hot baths and rest to try and restore some movement in our poor aching legs - I knew I was unfit and this hike certainly proved it. Apologies for the delay in posting but there is poor wi fi reception in the park.
