MAY 20: We traveled through sagebrush landscapes from Salt Lake City to beautiful Bryce Canyon to observe those photo-perfect bright red, yellow, white, and pink pillars of many shapes and sizes called "hoodoos."  They are pinnacle shaped spires that can be described as resembling totem poles.   It's nature at its best; natural geological art work that pleases the senses upon viewing them.  It's awe inspiring, because it took millions of years to transform these rocks into what we see today.   From 5 to 150 feet tall of claron limestone, they are now in the process of further erosion and destruction from rain, and the irony is that the colors become more vibrant after a rainstorm.  The Bryce Canyon we see today will eventually disappear.

They offer free shuttle service to most of the viewpoints at Bryce Canyon that runs every few minutes.   A visit to the visitor's center is highly recommended.   For those staying the whole day, you can also visit Rainbow Point on the 9AM or 1:30PM tour that takes 3.5 hours for the round-trip which covers 40 miles with stops along many of the scenic viewpoints.

On the eve of May 20, we were also treated to a full eclipse, and the folks at our lodge provided us with viewing glasses.  A bonus we didn't know about until we arrived at our hotel.
