Map of Hamburg: Most of the important sites in Hamburg are shown on this map.   The downtown shopping district, the important museums, the waterfront, the City Hall, St Pauli district, and HafenCity are all shown on this map, and this is the area I have become most familiar with.  The yellow highlighted roads are the ones that I walked most frequently, and the green indicates I've spent some time in those areas.

HAMBURG:

NOV 15: In addition to staying at the Arcotel Rubin for two nights, I also stayed at the Park Inn Hamburg for three nights to spend time with friends from Lippstadt and Manchester after the Grand Circle Travel organized tour ended.  The bus and walking tour by Grand Circle Travel provided the over-view of the important districts of the city that mostly hugs the Elbe River area.

HAFENCITY is Hamburg's waterfront that has several good museums, and are continually being developed.   My friends and I visited the Maritime Museum one day, and spent over three hours looking at their amazing collection of international display of boats/ships, history, models of boats/ships, artifacts, uniforms, pictures, posters, medals, replicas of staterooms, replica of the James Caird, the 22' boat that Shackleton took from Elephant Island to South Georgia Island on that miraculous trip of some 800 nautical miles - on choppy waters and cloudy days.   The only complaint I have of the replica is that the boat looks new with fancy stripings that the original doesn't have.

Here's a good public domain video on Hafencity: http://www.hafencity.com/en/media/plans-maps.html

Nov 15: The included bus tour of Hamburg that started from the port where our boat was docked to the waterfront, St Pauli, then to the downtown area provided us with a good overview of the area that I later revisited alone or with friends.   Because seeing the same sites during and day and at night gives it a different feel, I've posted several pictures of the same sites.

Nov 16: This was a "free" day to explore on our own, so I took the opportunity to revisit many of the sites we drove through on the bus the day before in addition to other areas of Hamburg.   I was satisfied with my day of exploration, and I hope the pictures offers some more exposure to this wonderful city that continues to grow and improve itself through the many developments, and especially in HafenCity.   Note: The train station sign shows the temperature at 3 degree C; yes, it was very cold.

Some times they design them that way.  *Weird.
