This trip actually included Hong Kong for New Year's Eve, a tour of Vietnam to visit Hanoi, Halong Bay, Saigon, and the Mekong Delta, and finally to Siem Reap to visit Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom.

Our hotel in Hong Kong.
Star Ferry; seniors ride free.

Peninsula Hotel's high tea.

Hong Kong shopping:
Victoria Peak train.
View of Hong Kong from Victoria Peak:

Our hotel, Sofitel Metropole, in Hanoi:

While in Hanoi, we were treated to bike rickshaw rides, the water puppet show, visit to Ho Chi Min's mausoleum and home on stilts, Confucius Temple, history museum, and having meals at some very good restaurants.   On one occasion, some members of our group made reservation at the Opera restaurant across the street from our hotel.  We were given a long table sharing another long table in one dining room.   A gentleman seated at the other table was none other than Bob Woodward.

Halong Bay:

Halong Bay has some 3,000 limestone rocks sticking out above the water in unusual shapes that have been developed over 20 million years.

From Wiki: "Historical research surveys have shown the presence of prehistorical
human beings in this area tens of thousands years ago. The successive
ancient cultures are the Soi Nhụ culture around 18,000-7,000 BC, the Ci
Bo culture 7,000-5,000 BC[6]
and the Hạ Long culture 3,500-5,000 years ago."

Mekong Delta:

Many of us got introduced to "Mekong Delta" during the Vietnam War.  Most visitors today are taken on motor boats to an island on the Mekong Delta, and switched to smaller boats oared by women in conical hats.   Visitors are usually treated to tropical fruits and beverages, and visits to a coconut candy factory.

Siem Reap: Our hotel, Raffles Hotel:

To Angkor Wat:

Angkor Wat is a Hindu Temple originally dedicated to the god Vishnu, and subsequently Buddhist.  It's the major tourist destination for visitors to Cambodia, and the temple is shown on the national flag.
Raffles Hotel:
We were fortunate to have been provided occupancy at this sister hotel to the one in Singapore. The accommodations and service were very good.

Angkor Thom:

Most people who have never visited this area are not aware that there are two temple areas in Siem Reap; Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom.
