Hell in Hue
Entry 46 of 67 | show all | print this entry |
The journey to Hue was pretty cool. Me and Ross got a train from Hanoi at 1pm in the afternoon and got to Hue at 2am! We didn't have any accommodation booked, we travelled in the cheapest seats and it was really good. Trains are definitely the best way to get round Vietnam. Wegot out the station, half-expecting to have to sleep there but we were greated by more motorbike drivers, one of which sorted out a room for us.
After a few hours sleep we got up early, found a better guesthouse then had a wander around the town, citadel and stuff. I didn't think there was much to see, and there wasn't, but it was nice enough. Spent the evening drinking in the DMZ Bar and Brown Eye Bar, playing pool and just taking it easy.
The Hell started the next day. I woke up feeling the illest I felt for years. I reckon it was food poisoning, and I couldn't leave the room all day. Luckily Doctor Daan came to the rescue again with his medical bag, fresh from the train from Hanoi. My saviour!!!! A few paracetemol, immodiums, and a secret magic pill had me pretty much beter by the next day. I was soooooo pleased when I had recovered at least a little bit. At least I got to watch some films in my room, and finish the best book ever - Papillon. Read it!!! I had another day to recover then on 3rd, we got a mini-bus to Hoi-An.
