Cairns Part One
Entry 27 of 67 | show all | print this entry |
We ended up getting the bus straight from airlie to cairns because the weather wasn't that great (apparently it is approaching wet season, so laugh whilst you can!), so we thought there was no point going to magnetic island if it was going to rain. The journey took all day, and I was climbing up walls by the end of it. We checked into our hostel, Serpents, as recommended by Nikki Fox! Its pretty cool, dirt cheap and some nnice people. We didn't hang around for long that night as we went out for drinks - $10 power hour at Tropos, where you get all you can drink for 1 hour. AAfter that, we hit the legendary Woolshed backpacker bar, which was pretty good. I think I got in at about 4 then stayed up til 5. Not a bad start to Cairns nightlife. The next day turned into a random one. I slept in late for once!!! Then when i was in the bar in the afternoon (drinking coke!) I saw someone familiar - Craig Starling!!! The t-shirt with Tuk on the back gave it away. Turns out he's in Cairns for a month to work for a bit before hitting the East Coast. It was meant to be a detox night, but the inevitable happened. We ended up going for drinks in PJ O'Breins, where I bumped into the finish girls from Brisbane (Eeva and Mirka) who were behind the bar. Cheap drinks ahoy! So much so that Craig ended up entering the Pole Dancing competition, coming a respectable 2nd place. After that we went to the Woolshed again, and saw the night out. Finally a detox day. I did nothing on the 13th. Absolutely nothing. Oh, I did win the free Bingo competition, netting me a $25 bar tab. That won't be used for a few days as I am heading to Cape Tribulation and the Daintree Rainforest for a few days. Ad is staying in Cairns with Dan and Dave, and I'll obviously meet up when I get back.
